I started my career in support at a software company and within a few months, I took over their help centre and became a technical writer. What I didn’t know at the time was that the company was being acquired by a global tech giant, so my little project to help the support team out, turned into a full overhaul of the company’s documentation and the creation of an AI support agent to shield the team from the rapid growth that comes with all of that.

Anyway… I was eventually promoted into program management. It seemed like a great career move at the time until I realised it meant spending less and less time doing the thing I actually loved. The whole time, I was writing on the side for free (blog posts, course content, editing every piece of copy I could get my hands on and taking every free marketing course under the sun) just to stay close to it.

I'd wanted to take the leap into copywriting for years, but the opportunities that came up always meant moving to a city (which really doesn’t suit me), so I kept waiting. Then I got pregnant, and I realised I didn't need to wait for the right opportunity to appear, I could just build it. So I did.

Around 2 months before my little one was born, I took a paid copy writing course, built my portfolio and started Sian Writes Copy during nap times. I wanted to show my daughter that you can create the life you want if you're willing to do the work. That's still the thing that drives me to help other founders do the same.
